US EXPORTS OF GOODS BY END-USE CATEGORY AND COMMODITY

For the year 2016, industrial supplies and materials together with capital goods (except automotive) made up a
total of 64 percent of US exports by principal end-use category. Consumer goods fell in third place with 13
percent. The chart below shows changes in exports by end-use category over the period 2014 to 2016.
US IMPORTS OF GOODS BY END-USE CATEGORY AND COMMODITY

For the year 2016, the largest percent of imported goods by principal end-use category were capital goods
(except automotive) and consumer goods with 27 percent each. Industrial supplies & materials and automotive
vehicles parts & engines placed second and third places with 20 percent and 16 percent, respectively. The chart
below shows changes in percent of imports by end-use category over the period 2014 to 2016.
